8/24/2012-The Roswell Invaders are getting ready for the 2013 season alot earlier than many of the other teams in the Pecos League. They will hold a meeting August 28th to begin regrouping for the 2013 season. The Invaders lead the Pecos League in attendence in 2011 and won the regular season and post season crown. In 2012 the Invaders finished 3rd in the regular season and were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. The Invaders finished dead last in paid attendence.
It obvious to any baseball person or fan that NMMI is the premier baseball facility in Roswell. The Invaders choose to goto Coca Cola Park because of alcohol sales in 2010 when the team was formed. After two seasons of playing in Coca Cola Park it might be time to move to NMMI.
This will be the 3rd year in a row the Pecos League has met with NMMI. Alcohol got in the way the first two years. According to the New Mexico Board of Alcohol NMMI can apply for and sell alcohol in their facility. They can get a governmenal beer license. Now whether that happens or not is another story. NMMI is about as conservative of an institution that exists. It stands for New Mexico Military Academy.
"Whatever we can do in the best interest of the Roswell Invaders everyone will be in favor of. I don't think people care if we play at Hondo Park as long as keep the Invaders in Roswell. Roswell was our best city in 2011 and I believe it can be one of our top cities in 2013. We have proven success in Roswell in 2011 and the other five cities in the Pecos League in 2012. The City of Roswell has done a first class job in supporting us at Joe Bauman Park and we will continue to stay there if we have to. It is time to seriously consider NMMI. " says Andrew Dunn of the Pecos League.
"I don't know why the Invaders never moved to NMMI in the beginning, the surface is way better, the lights are better, the seating and press box is better. NMMI has much better lights, much better surface and is visible to everyone, it is dream location for a Pecos League team, the lights are on people will come to the games." says Justin Lowery manager of White Sands Pupfish
Within two weeks the Invaders will know where they will play and who will be coaching the team. The Pecos League has an offer outstanding to a potential coach. "We have made an offer to a coaching staff and we will see where things go. It is priority number one to get coaches in Roswell that can do a great job with their team and be popular in the community."
